‘Spring colours VI’ is one of a series of works that celebrate the returning warmth of the season and the sense of optimism and fresh energy that it brings. An initial application of ochre and red washes of acrylic paint formed a background to be worked over. Thicker and more textured layers of oil paint were added in contrasting colours, leaving just a glimpse of the base layer behind. The rich undertones provide a warmth and earthiness to the piece.

Texture comes from the addition of impasto oil paint, sand and oil stick, giving the surface a three dimensional quality and roughness. This is part of a collection of abstract pieces in a series exploring similar colour combinations and material applications.

The painting is a stretched canvas and has gallery wrapped edge. It has D-hooks and hanging wire attached so it is ready to hang and is signed on the back. The work is unframed.
